This little universal remote control, that can turn off any tv in range, makes me think…
A part of me likes the idea, and the ideal behind this: a way to decrease the everyday media-hypnosis that pollutes our ideas, and internal dialogue.
Another part of me sees this little device as a powerful mean of personal media terrorism. Yes, it sounds terrible.. but isn’t it like that?
I
mean: i have the power to decide, and i decide for everyone in the
area, and shut down TV. This is just the same as before, i entered a
place where a TV was on, i didn’t know who had the remote, who had the
power.. and had to ask for it to be switched off.
And.. yes, that’s why usually we just let it go..
Many people will buy this toy probably, and there will be some chaos.. probably.
But
this is quite interesting, because today’s assumption is that who holds
the interface has the power… maybe we could think about inventing
more democratic-interfaces for devices?
Who knows, at least on other fields designing collaborative interfaces is becoming a focal point.
